Report indicates prescription drugs contributed to accident

Impaired drivers present a hazard on Pennsylvania roads every day. The ingestion of alcohol or drugs can cause a driver to make decisions while driving that he or she normally would not. Sometimes these decisions result in car accidents. These car accidents can be injury inducing and involve others who are innocent drivers or bystanders.

A Pennsylvania woman who allegedly drove while under the influence of prescription drugs, and was involved in an accident with a pedestrian, is dealing with the consequences. Last month the car she was driving hit a man who was mowing his lawn. Prior to hitting the man, her car left the road and plowed through the fence surrounding the man's home.

The man, who was operating a riding lawnmower, was thrown from the piece of equipment. He landed on the hood of the woman's vehicle. He stayed on the hood as the car continued forward into a flower bed where the man was deposited.

As a result of the accident the man sustained serious injuries. He has been in the hospital for over a month. Unable to talk, he blinks his eyes to communicate.

After the accident the woman's blood was drawn for analysis. The toxicology report indicates that she had six different drugs in her system at the time of the incident. In addition, she was reportedly talking on her phone when the accident occurred.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested earlier this month and charged with several crimes including Aggravated Assault By Vehicle While Under the Influence.

In addition to the criminal case, it is likely the young woman will face a civil personal injury case as well. In accidents such as this one, it is common for the person who is injured to seek financial compensation. Money may be recovered for a variety of things including medical bills.
