A road that is known by local residents to be treacherous was the scene of an accident last week. Two Pennsylvania teenagers were struck by a car that apparently lost control on a slippery street as they waited for their school bus at the end of a driveway on Conestoga Road near its intersection with Sproul Road in Radnor Township. After the car hit the 15-year-olds it continued on to hit a house.
Both teens were injured in the collision and were transported to the hospital in a helicopter. The girl did not sustain any internal injuries or broken bones so she was released after receiving stitches. The boy sustained injuries to a leg and his head. He underwent surgery on both of them at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Three of the four occupants in the car were injured as well, including the driver. They were transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital for treatment. The status of their injuries is unknown.
Signs have been posted on the stretch on Conestoga Road to alert drivers of impending curves and steep slopes. In addition, grooves have been installed to alert drivers to slow down to the 35 mph posted speed limit and try to reduce slipperiness. According to residents of the area numerous accidents have happened on the street, prompting some to place large boulders in front of their homes in an effort to protect them.
At this point it is unclear whether the district attorney will elect to press charges against the driver. It is also currently unclear whether those injured in the accident will file a civil personal injury lawsuit against the driver of the car. Such a lawsuit, if successful, could provide compensation to the injured parties for things such as medical bills.
