Across the state of Pennsylvania, pedestrians and motor vehicles interact on a daily basis. While laws have been created to help the two coexist in a safe manner, and drivers and walkers do what they can to follow those laws, inevitably accidents do happen.
Earlier this month 26-year-old man from Guatemala was killed after being hit by a pickup truck at 25th Street and East Carson in Pittsburgh. The early morning fatal accident that was captured on a nearby surveillance camera happened when the man stepped into traffic.
It is unclear what cause the man to step into traffic and the accident is currently under investigation. Based on the images captured on the surveillance camera and the location of the incident, near the SouthSide Works, the possibility is being explored that the man who was hit was intoxicated. The man's death was due to blunt force trauma sustained to his trunk, head and extremities.
After hitting the man, the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene of the accident. Police indicate that the driver of the pickup truck was not intoxicated and at this point charges have not been filed.
Immediately following the accident the identity of the man was unknown. Immigration records and fingerprints were being used to try to determine who he was. The name of the man has since been determined as has the fact that his father still resides in Guatemala.
Depending on the facts gathered in the investigation the man's family may be monetarily compensated for his untimely death. Whatever the reason behind this tragic accident, all can agree that at age 26, the man died much too young.
