Driver injured after hitting truck on side of I-79

For most people involved in car crashes the accident is a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. An example of this occurred earlier this month on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township, Pennsylvania.

Prior to the collision the driver of a truck pulled off the road around mile marker 95. The driver believed the truck's transmission was not working properly and made a call for assistance. As the driver waited for help to arrive, the driver of another car lost control of the vehicle and ran into the tail end of the truck.

As a result of the early evening collision the person inside the vehicle that hit the truck was pinned inside the auto. It took around 20 minutes for rescue crews to free the person after which the driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital located in Pittsburgh via helicopter for treatment. The extent of the injuries sustained is unknown. Apparently the other driver was uninjured in the crash.

It is currently unclear what caused the driver of the vehicle that hit the truck to lose control. The reasons behind such an accident are potentially many and include distracted driving, medical incidents, equipment malfunction and issues with the condition of the road. Should a problem with the vehicle or the condition of the road be to blame, the injured driver may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit. Filed in a civil court, under some circumstances this type of lawsuit can provide compensation for expenses resulting from the accident.
