Two trucks involved in accident on Pennsylvania Turnpike

The end result of an accident involving a truck can be serious and result in significant damage to both people and property.

Two trucks were involved in a crash this past week on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The two tractor trailers were driving in the same direction when the truck accident occurred. According to police, the first truck which was driven by a 56-year-old man was traveling in the right lane at 55 mph. The second truck was following the first, travelling at a higher rate of speed. The collision occurred when the 35-year-old driver of the second truck that was traveling at 65 mph, became distracted when he needed to adjust the defroster. He took his eyes off the road long enough for the front of his truck to hit the back of the first tractor trailer.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts which likely minimized the injuries incurred. The 35-year-old sustained injuries to his face and head which were classified as minor.

When a truck accident occurs, a prompt investigation into the cause of the accident is important. There are many reasons a truck accident may occur in addition to driver distraction or error. Some of these reasons include maintenance and equipment failure, overloaded trucks, driver fatigue and driving while intoxicated.

Should injuries have been sustained by the driver of the first truck, he would potentially have a couple options regarding compensation including a workers' compensation claim against his company and a personal injury claim against the driver of the second truck. Fortunately, neither driver appears to have sustained major injuries in this crash.
