Police in Indiana and Pennsylvania are looking for a driver whom they believe was involved in a high-speed crash that killed one man and severely injured two other people. The accident occurred Sunday near Clarksburg, which is about an hour away from Pittsburgh.
Authorities believe the car accident occurred as people were street-racing along Route 286. The 45-year-old Blairsville man died when his car collided head-on with another vehicle. He was traveling "at a high rate of speed" in the wrong lane as he raced another car, according to officials.
A 911 call from the scene was registered at 8:45 p.m. and the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:30 p.m.
Police do not know who the man had been racing and are still on the lookout for that person.
The two people who were in the vehicle that the deceased man struck were critically injured and had to be airlifted by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Their identities and condition are not known.
Of course it is tragic that this man died, but by engaging in street racing and driving very fast in the wrong lane, he put others in very great danger. The accident victims might be able to work with an attorney and recover for the injuries they suffered, as well as any expenses related to lost income and pain and suffering.
It is always best to take as many safety precautions while driving as you can, of course, but frightening incidents like this go to show that car accidents can happen through no fault of your own. It may not be a bad idea to identify an attorney you trust now and keep his or her contact information handy in case you should ever need it.
