2 die in crash involving van and motorcycle on route 724

Two people were reportedly killed after being involved in a motor vehicle accident in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The vehicles involved in the car crash Tuesday evening were a van and a motorcycle. This accident happened on Route 724 in Birdsboro.

All motor vehicle accidents have the potential to be devastating. When a motorcycle is one of the vehicles, things can be even worse. This is due to the size and weight of the motorcycle compared to even the smallest and lightest car, as well as the lack of protection a rider has on a motorcycle. Injuries sustained when a motorcycle and a car collide can range from broken bones, spinal and head injuries, to death.

In this case, the individual riding the motorcycle reportedly crashed through the van's windshield. It is not known if the rider was wearing a helmet, but even if he or she was, it would only protect a small portion of the rider's body. A helmet is not required to ride a motorcycle in the state of Pennsylvania.

There are many reasons motor vehicle accidents occur including speeding and, distracted driving. In accidents involving motorcycles, it is not uncommon for the car to have not seen the motorcycle and its rider. This is due to the size of the motorcycle compared to the car.

The details are not clear in the case as to why the accident occurred or if anyone survived the crash. Dependant on many factors, once an investigation is complete, the loved ones of the victims of the crash may file a wrongful death lawsuit.
