At least 30 people were injured in bus accident on Saturday, September 18, 2021 when a bus driver lost control, veered off the highway and ran onto the right shoulder. The bus then went through the exit ramp at Route 25, went across Route 25 and hit the center guard rail. It then hit an embankment and traveled another 50 yards into a wooded area.
The crashed occurred around 2:36 pm in Foster Township, Schuylkill, County. Pennsylvania State Police responded to the accident, and continue to investigate the crash. They believe a medical incident suffered by the driver is what caused the crash.
The driver is in stable condition with only a fractured ankle. The 31 passengers on the bus were mostly high school students returning from a church retreat. All 31 passengers were injured, though the level of injuries vary. Four of the 31 passengers were taken by helicopter for treatment. A majority of the injured were treated and released, but about one-third remain hospitalized. Several are in critical condition.
The bus is owned by Premiere #1 Limousine Service. Premiere owns all late model buses but with upgraded safety features, such as seatbelts, which likely helped prevent further injury.
