Miter saw recalled due to faulty blade guard

There is a reason that construction sites are considered by many to be so dangerous. The tools used to complete new buildings and houses, some of which have many sharp edges and may be heavy, can do great bodily harm when not used appropriately. Knowing this, imagine then just how dangerous a tool such as a saw can be if it is defective. Fortunately, the recall mechanism is in place to quickly advise owners of dangerous or defective products that they should no longer be used.

Recently, a recall was issued for a miter saw sold in Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the country. Imported from China by Robert Bosch Tool Corporation, the unsafe equipment was available between January and April 2012, at retailers OC Tanner and Lowe's Home Centers. A total of approximately 22,149 saws are included in the recall.

Many construction tools, including this saw, have safety features designed to prevent accidents from happening. This SkilSaw 10-inch compound miter saw, has a blade guard that is in place to cover the blade as it spins so that the user is not accidently cut when the tool is not in contact with a piece of wood. The recall in this case is due to a problem with the guard covering the lower part of the blade.

Fortunately, thus far, no one has reported any injury due to the broken blade guard. If however, someone did sustain a laceration as a result of the defective product, that person could attempt to recoup financial damages via a civil products liability lawsuit. A personal injury lawyer can help determine if such a lawsuit is worth pursuing.
