There are many different ways in which injuries prompting personal injury type lawsuits are incurred. In this blog we often write about motor vehicle accidents because they are so prevalent. Car accidents are by no means the only way in which Pittsburgh area residents are injured, however. This is illustrated in an accident that occurred this past weekend on an area river.
The incident occurred on Monongahela River and involved a boat and a Wave Runner. While it is not clear why the collision occurred, the riders of the Wave Runner, a man and a woman, reportedly both sustained serious injuries in the incident. As a result, they were both transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital via a helicopter.
The occupants of the boat were not injured in the crash.
The outcome of this collision is similar to motor vehicle accidents involving motorcycles and cars. In these circumstances it is not uncommon for those on the motorcycle to be seriously hurt while the occupants of the cars are protected. Wave Runners, similar to motorcycles, provide little protection to those who are riding them. Additionally, when compared to the boats they share waterways with, they are much smaller.
An investigation is underway to determine what actually caused the injury inducing accident. Though unknown, it is possible that the collision could have resulted from the driver of the boat failing to see the smaller water vehicle. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, all can hope that the riders of the Wave Runner make a complete and speedy recovery from their injuries.
