Teen drivers are considered by many to be some of the most reckless on the road, responsible for many car accidents. As a recent incident in Pennsylvania illustrates, in some cases, this notion is well founded.
Earlier this month a teen driver who did not have a license was involved in a crash after a police officer determined that he was not in possession of a driver's license. Apparently, when the teen realized that the police knew he was not supposed to be driving, he attempted to flee. When he did that, he hit the back of a van waiting at an intersection. The actual age of the teen is not known.
The rear-end collision caused injuries to the person who was behind the wheel of the van. That person was transported to a hospital after complaining of pain to the back and neck. The extent of that driver's injuries, are not known.
There was another person in the vehicle driven by the teen. Both occupants of that vehicle were taken to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. As neither of them was seriously hurt, they did not remain there for long. Upon release from the hospital, the driver was transported to Schuman Detention Center. The passenger's parents reportedly came to get the other occupant when he or she was able to go home.
It is unclear what, if any, criminal charges the teen drive will face. Regardless of whether criminal charges will be forthcoming, the teen could face a civil personal injury lawsuit as a result of the injuries he caused to the driver of the van.
