Multiple cars involved in crash on Route 22

Controlled intersections exist at least in part to help regulate the behavior of drivers travelling along the roads where they are located. Despite this intent, at times they are actually the location of motor vehicle accidents in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. Earlier this month a car accident involving multiple vehicles at an intersection occurred.

According to a police officer who responded to the scene, eyewitnesses indicated that a vehicle failed to stop at a red light, hitting to other cars that were appropriately stopped for the light. The incident, which took place on Route 22, injured five people.

It is not clear which vehicles the injured individuals were occupying. They were transported to hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown, but the police officer who was on the scene said it was his understanding that they seemed to not be too serious.

There could be many reasons the driver of the car that hit the two other vehicles failed to stop at the light. The person behind the wheel may have been distracted by doing something to pull his or her attention away from the road. As we wrote about last week, the person may have suffered some sort of medical emergency. Thus far, no criminal charges have been filed. An investigation will probably be conducted and determine whether this will happen.

No one wants to be involved in a car accident. This is true even when the injuries sustained are not too serious. Hopefully all involved in the crash will be back to their normal lives soon.
