It is fair to say that no one is prepared for the loss of a loved one in a fatal accident. This is true in the Pittsburgh area as well as throughout the country. Sadly, nonetheless, car accidents that result in death occur on an all too regular basis. Earlier this week one such accident occurred on Route 308 in Butler County.
The incident happened early in the morning, shortly before 5:00 a.m., and involved a Chevrolet Camaro and a Waste management truck. According to police who responded to the accident, the two vehicles collided after the Chevrolet crossed the center line. After the initial collision the Chevrolet left the road and hit a tree.
There were two people in the Chevrolet at the time of the incident. The 23-year-old man who was behind the wheel was apparently pinned in the car. After rescue workers got him out of the wreck, he was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where he was sadly pronounced dead.
His passenger, a 18-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries when she was thrown from the car. She was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. The man in the Waste Management vehicle was not injured in the incident.
For many Pennsylvania residents, being on the road before 5:00 a.m. is unheard of. While the driver of the Waste Management vehicle was in all likelihood working, it is not clear where the Chevrolet was going or why it crossed the center line. As is the usually procedure, an investigation will likely be completed regarding the crash.
