The majority of motor vehicle accidents that occur throughout Western Pennsylvania are minor fender benders. Accordingly, when most people think of the matters that need to be addressed after a car accident has occurred, they are mostly concerned with coordinating with insurance companies to facilitate the payment for the repair of their vehicle. When someone is seriously injured or dies in an accident however, there are usually more issues that need to be addressed.
A man who was behind the wheel of a car that hit and killed a car salesman in Pittsburgh is dealing with some of those issues now.
When he hit the 50-year-old man, in the November 2010 accident, he was reportedly driving too fast. In addition, at the time of the crash the vehicle the man was driving reportedly had faulty brakes. The man who was killed was crossing the street, near the location of his employer, when the car struck him.
The 38-year-old driver is facing criminal consequences related to the incident. Among others, he has been charged with vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
Of course the untimely death of the car salesman will likely prompt a civil case against the driver as well. A lawsuit such as this is often difficult for loved ones of the person who has died to navigate. Nonetheless, while a wrongful death lawsuit will do nothing to bring back the deceased person, the monetary damages that usually go along with a successful claim, often provide the finances necessary to move forward after the loss.
