When an auto-pedestrian accident occurs there is no doubt who will win. A pedestrian has next to no chance against a powerful motor vehicle whether it is a small car or a large truck. A pedestrian accident often results in serious injuries that require extensive treatment, including multiple surgeries, hospital recovery periods and rehabilitative sessions.
Sadly, many of these injuries are also life-threatening, causing some families to lose a loved one. Not only is there an emotional loss, but the victim is often a primary wage earner whose loss causes undue financial strain. The family of a New Middleton woman was recently and unexpectedly forced to say goodbye to the 51-year-old woman after she was struck by a car in Beaver Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol began investigating the auto-pedestrian accident immediately after it occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012. The woman had attempted to cross Market Street by way of Calla Road at approximately 10:30 in the evening. As she walked through the intersection, a 20-year-old driver failed to see the woman and struck her in the intersection.
The woman initially survived the accident and was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Doctors used emergency procedures in an attempt to save her life, but the injuries eventually proved fatal for the woman.
It is unclear what caused the driver's failure to see the pedestrian in the roadway, but what was clear was that the young driver of the vehicle was able to walk away uninjured.
