It is necessary for many residents of Pennsylvania to work at a job to make a living. These people go to a variety of different workplaces where they undertake a variety of different jobs. Some of those jobs are more dangerous than others.
A 27-year-old man from Homer City was hurt last week while at his job as a garbage worker. The man, who is employed by Waste Management, was injured when a Chevrolet driven by an 84-year-old man hit him. At the time, the worker was emptying garbage cans on Hecla Road. When the car hit the worker, it pinned him between the garbage truck and the car.
The garbage worker was injured in the accident. According to the man’s employer and the state police, the man sustained several fractures to his legs. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital located in Pittsburgh via helicopter. There he was listed in guarded condition. The man behind the wheel of the Chevrolet was also apparently injured in the incident. He was taken to Excela Health Frick Hospital for treatment.
It is unclear what caused the man driving the Chevrolet to hit the garbage worker. According to a spokesman for Troop A, the worker was wearing a reflective safety vest. In addition, at the time of the collision, the safety lights the truck was equipped with were activated.
The incident is currently under investigation. The outcome of that investigation will determine whether any charges will be filed in the case. Regardless of the outcome, it is likely that the worker will file a workers’ compensation claim to recover benefits. He may also decide to file a personal injury lawsuit against the man driving the car that hit him.
