Motor vehicle accidents occur on a regular basis throughout Pennsylvania. Even when one is following the rules of the road he or she may end up involved in a car accident. This is true regardless of one's occupation or stature in society. An accident that occurred earlier this month illustrates this.
The police chief from Springdale Borough was inadvertently involved in a car accident when the vehicle he was driving was hit by another car. The collision took place as the police chief drove an unmarked car on Freeport Road. As he approached Riddle Run Road, a car driven by a 38-year-old woman reportedly struck a guardrail before crossing the centerline and hitting the police car that was travelling in the opposite direction. Both drivers were hurt in the collision.
According to authorities, after the morning accident, the woman driver was transport via helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital. The police chief was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital located in Harrison. They were the only people involved in the accident. No information was provided on the nature of either of their conditions.
Most people do not want to be involved in a car accident even when the outcome is not catastrophic. When a person is involved in an accident, it is fair to say that most are hoping that it will not involve a police officer. Police have indicated that this accident is being investigated. Once the investigation is complete they will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against the woman.
