It is a sad reality that everyday workers are injured on the job. This is true regardless of the profession, throughout the country. A public works supervisor for the city of Pittsburgh knows this all too well. The man, who supervises the use of heavy equipment, was hurt on the job, in a motor vehicle accident at a work site.
At the time of the car accident the man was driving a pickup at a worksite located in New Homestead where his crew was repairing a damaged retaining wall. According to officials, the accident occurred at the intersection of Doerville Avenue and Mifflin Road.
Businesses throughout all states including the state of Pennsylvania are required to carry workers' compensation insurance policies in case employees are injured while working. This coverage provides benefits to eligible injured workers. To obtain the benefits the injured worker must file a claim. The extent of the benefits is dependent on the type and extent of the injury sustained.
The workers' compensation system can be complicated. Claims are sometimes denied. Other times benefits that have been awarded may be lowered or eliminated. People facing these situations and others should understand that they may have options. An experience workers' compensation attorney can help to make sure the workers' compensation benefits are maximized.
Fortunately, the injuries the man sustained in this case were minor. He did receive treatment at UPMC Mercy hospital however. It is unclear whether the driver in the vehicle that hit the pickup sustained any injuries.
