While no one wants to be involved in a car accident, immediately following a crash most people take the appropriate steps. These steps include checking with others involved to make sure they are not hurt, calling the police and emergency responders for assistance and exchanging insurance information. While this is how most people react after a motor vehicle accident, there are those who flee the scene. In addition to being inconsiderate, this is also against the law in Pennsylvania.
A Pittsburgh pedestrian is recovering after her encounter with a hit-and-run driver earlier this month. The 18-year-old woman was standing at the intersection of Sandusky and North Avenue, around 7:30 a.m., when a SUV ran into her. The right headlight of the burgundy vehicle was the portion of the vehicle that actually made contact with her. Immediately following the collision, the woman who was driving the SUV rolled her window down and apologized. She then left the scene.
While not seriously injured, the 18-year-old did hurt her hip in the collision. She expects that the injury will result in her missing some work.
The hit-and-run accident took place within about 100 yards of the daycare provider where the 18-year-old woman had just dropped her child. She expressed her relief that she was not holding her son when she was struck by the vehicle. If she had, the accident's outcome could have been much worse.
The young woman said everything happened so fast she was unable to get the SUV's license plate number. The police are currently seeking information on the driver.
