For many in Pennsylvania, though dangerous, logging is a way of life. Each day individuals get up and go to their job in the woods. While most days they return home at the end of the day, this is not always the case. Sadly, earlier this month a man from Ridgway, Pennsylvania, made his last trip into the forest when he was involved in a fatal accident.
The 61-year-old man was injured while working in St. Marys, located northeast of Pittsburgh. It took a while for emergency responders to locate the man after they were called just before 7:30 p.m. While is it not clear how he was hurt or his specific injuries, he died at the hospital later that night. The accident is currently being investigated by St. Marys police.
Losing a loved one is always hard for those left behind. This is particularly true when the person dies unexpectedly in an avoidable accident. No one is prepared for this. While nothing can be done to bring the person back, there are steps that can be taken to try to bring closure to the matter.
A wrongful death lawsuit may provide the closure sought. This civil lawsuit seeks to hold negligent parties responsible for fatal accidents. In successful cases, loved ones of the deceased recover compensation for the loss of his or her life.
These cases are usually complicated both in the legal realm as well as emotionally. Part of the process entails determining how much the deceased person's life was worth financially. Because this is often difficult for family members, it is important to seek the assistance of an experienced attorney.
