The end of last month a tree cutter with more than 30 years experience was injured while at work. The man, who worked for JJ Tree Service, was cutting trees at a property in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, when it happened. Though no one saw the ultimately fatal accident, it appeared his leg was cut by the chainsaw he was using on the trees.
When first responders arrived on the scene the man was more than 25 feet above, safety harness on, hanging upside down. His thigh was reportedly bleeding profusely. The Monroeville Firefighter EMT, who used the injured man's ladder to reach him, initially found the man unresponsive. He did regain consciousness at some point and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital to be treated.
Sadly, the man died from his injuries a few days later. The loved ones of the man from Plum are undoubtedly reeling from the chain of events. No one expects that someone they love will sustain a fatal injury while at work. This is true regardless of the type of job one engages in. When someone does die at work it is not uncommon for those left behind to feel powerless.
There is however something the family of deceased individuals may be able to do. Though a stressful process, a wrongful death lawsuit may provide the financial compensation and emotional closure the loved ones need to move forward with their lives. Because these types of cases are complex, those considering pursuing such a claim should work with an experienced attorney that they trust.
