Because trucks are on roads throughout the Pittsburgh area there is always the potential that one will be involved in a motor vehicle accident. Whenever a truck collides with a car the results are potentially devastating. Upon impact the much heavier truck can crush a car like a tin can.

Earlier this week a rush-hour crash involving four vehicles occurred on Route 28 near the Highland Park Bridge. The chain-reaction accident started when a Peterbilt dump truck rear-ended a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. As a result of the collision the Grand Am collided with a Pontiac Vibe which in turn, ran into a Mitsubishi Outlander. The accident resulted in injuries to many of the individuals involved.

The Grand Am was occupied by a woman and her 7-year-old stepdaughter. The back portion of the Grand Am was crushed in the accident causing the young girl to apparently sustain serious injuries. She was rescued from the wreck by state troopers and police officers from West View and Ross police departments who happened upon the crash scene while travelling to the funeral of a fellow officer. Once freed from the crushed car the girl was attended to by a medical crew from UPMC St. Margaret, before being transported to Children’s Hospital located in Lawrenceville. Her stepmother was taken to Magee-Womens Hospital located in Oakland. The nature of their injuries is unknown.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved, a 49-year-old woman and 55-year-old man, were also injured in the wreck. Their injuries were less serious however and both were released from the hospital after receiving treatment.
