In the crisp autumn evenings, knowing winter is right around the corner many people living in Pennsylvania choose to spend as much time as possible outside. One popular activity often participated in during the weeks leading up to Halloween is a haunted hayride. Earlier this past month a man working as a volunteer at Haunted Hills Hayride and the Valley of Darkness Walking Trail in North Versailles, was injured while performing his duty of scaring those on the hayride.
The man, from East McKeesport, reportedly executed a planned jump onto the wagon but was unable to hold on and fell off. When he fell, he landed in the path of the wagon’s wheels and was hurt. According to North Versailles police, the man was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh after he had problems breathing.
Founded to benefit Monroeville’s Spectrum Charter School and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, the attraction has been in existence for 12 years. According to the man who founded the attraction, fortunately the injured volunteer is expected to make a full recovery and is looking forward to continuing to participate in the event.
Though the specific injuries sustained are unknown, it appears the outcome in this case will be a good one. Under some circumstances when the outcome is not as positive, a personal injury lawsuit may be filed to recover such things as medical expenses and lost wages. Because these types of cases are very fact specific and can be complicated, it is important to consult an experienced attorney to determine how best to proceed.
