A majority of the traffic stops in Pennsylvania are uneventful and last only a few minutes. Cars are pulled over, the driver presents the documentation requested by the police officer, the driver receives either a warning or a ticket and all are back on their way. Unfortunately this is not the course a recent traffic stop took. Sadly it resulted in the death of a man.
Last month a 30-year-old Pennsylvania man died after a stun gun was activated twice by police following a traffic stop. After he was pulled over the man reportedly ran from his car. The first time the officers used their Electronic Incapacitation Device to subdue the man it did not appear to have any effect and he continued to run. Once the officers managed to catch up to the man, because he continued to try to get away from them, the device was used once again. This time it worked and the man was arrested.
Apparently the man seemed fine as he was taken into custody. When he later became unresponsive he was taken to York Hospital. It is there that he later died. While it is not clear exactly what caused the man's death, an autopsy will be performed.
Depending on the outcome of the autopsy, the loved ones of the man who died may decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This civil lawsuit is designed to provide the financial resources necessary for the loved ones of people who have died due to negligent behavior of another person to be able to move on with their lives. While the lawsuit will not bring the person who has died back, it may bring the closure that is needed to those that were left behind.
