Three teen boys were involved in a head-on car crash earlier this month on Old Forge Road. The car accident occurred early in the morning when the driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier approached a curve in the road and lost control of the vehicle. Before knocking down a utility pole and smashing head-on into a tree, the car crossed into the opposite lane and ran into a mailbox. The car burst into flames shortly after people passing by were able to extricate the three teens from the wreck.

The driver of the Chevrolet who was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash was transported to Waynesboro Hospital. He died there of multiple blunt force trauma. He was 18-years-old.

The other 18-year-old was initially transported to Meritus Medical Center, located in Hagerstown. Shortly after that he was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with injuries described as serious. The other passenger, a 17-year-old was transported to York Hospital via helicopter. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

It is always upsetting when a person loses their life in a car accident. Accidents involving teens that result in death are particularly tragic. In addition to dealing with their own physical recoveries, the boys who survived the crash will need to work through the death of their friend. This dynamic can get especially complicated should either of the passengers file a personal injury lawsuit to help cover their medical expenses.
