Earlier this week an afternoon accident occurred on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. At the time of the car accident the vehicle involved was driving south on the roadway near mile marker 37 in between the exits of Quakertown and Lansdale. According to a state trooper the car flipped multiple times causing an occupant to be ejected from the vehicle.
The person who was thrown from the car was taken a hospital in Philadelphia, via helicopter after sustaining a head injury. Miraculously, when rescue workers arrived, the individual was conscious and apparently alert. It is unclear whether there were additional occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
When an accident involves only one vehicle it is often assumed it is the fault of the driver due to negligent behavior. This is not always the case however. It is possible that external factors such as road defects could be to blame. Common road defects include signage that does not sufficiently warn of upcoming road conditions and blind intersections.
When someone is injured because of a defect in the road that person may have a personal injury lawsuit against the state highway department or local government. Recovering compensation in a lawsuit such as this could help cover medical expenses accumulated as a result of the accident. In addition, other damages may be recovered to compensate for things such as wages lost due to being unable to work.
The cause of this accident is currently unknown though it is under investigation by the police.
