Often when one hears about a motor vehicle accident involving a teenager in the state of Pennsylvania, it is assumed that the teen driver is engaged in a behavior that constitutes negligence. Of course this is not always the case. As is true with all car accidents, there are many possible causes, including equipment failure.
A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured last week when she was involved in a single vehicle accident while driving to school. The senior at Greencastle-Antrim High School was alone driving a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck on interstate 81 near Exit 5 when the accident happened.
According to Pennsylvania State Police one of the rear tires on the pickup blew-out shortly after 7 a.m. This caused the teen to lose control of the vehicle. Before rolling over in the median, the pickup crossed to the opposite lane and ran into an embankment.
A tire blowout may be due to a variety of reasons ranging from negligent maintenance, to defective design. The build-up of heat can in certain situations be a cause for tire blowouts. This is especially true if a tire is defective or under-inflated.
Depending on the facts, rollover accidents can result in significant injuries to occupants of the vehicle involved. Though the injuries of the 17-year-old teen have been characterized as serious, the specifics are currently unknown. After the accident the girl was transported to York Hospital.
The active high school student is a member of the National Honor Society and is enrolled in advanced classes. According to Schools Superintendent, the students and staff at her school have her in their thoughts.
