Horse-drawn carriage accident causes several injuries

Horse-drawn buggy accident rates are down from previous years, which is a good thing in our area where they share the road with motor vehicles year round. But there are still instances where someone who isn't paying close enough attention to the road will have a collision with a horse-drawn buggy. While damage to your car is inevitable, it's important to remember that the buggies offer little to no protection and those who are riding in them can suffer serious damages as the result of an accident. But when the accident involves one horse-drawn buggy running into another horse-drawn buggy and other pedestrians, the results can devastate multiple families

Yesterday, one person had to be Life-Flighted to an area hospital after an accident involving two horse-drawn buggies. The accident happed along Laird Road in Crawford County shortly after 10 p.m. last evening. Emergency operators dispatched crews to 11840 Laird Road to help those involved in the accident.

Pennsylvania State Police out of Meadville, PA told reporters that a horse-drawn carriage headed west along Laird Road collided with a another buggy that was driven by a 16-year-old boy who was attempting to pass. Both carriages were sent off the road and one of them crashed into two pedestrians who were walking along the road.

Several people were hurt. One of them, a 20-year-old man, was injured so badly that he had to be flown to UPMC Hamot. His current condition is not known and the conditions of the other who were injured are not known either.
