Erie motorcycle accidents attorneys
It seems we have been reading more and more tragic stories about fatal motorcycle accidents of late. And this after a promising beginning to the summer in northwestern PA, where motorcycle accidents were significantly down from previous years. We can now add another one of those accidents to the list after a terrible accident has taken the life of a local man.
Millcreek Township accident ends tragically
On Thursday evening, a 53-year-old Millcreek man was killed when he was run over by a commercial tractor trailer. The accident happened on West 12th Street in Millcreek Township at approximately 5:30 p.m. Police say the man was instantly killed due to blunt force trauma to the head and torso, according to Dennis Suscheck, Erie's Deputy Coroner. The truck and driver were under the employ of Modern Industries, a local business.
Police told reporters that the victim was headed southwestward on West 12th Street when the Modern Industries truck was coming from the opposite direction. As the man approached the intersection, the truck began turning left onto Cherry Street into the Modern Industries parking area. As the truck turned, the man laid his motorcycle down to avoid the collision, but slid under the truck and was struck by the back wheels of the cab of the truck. The driver of the truck suffered no injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate. No foul play is suspected of the driver, but authorities are trying to figure out how fast the motorcycle was travelling at the time of the accident.
