Truck accident sends one man to hospital in Ohio

A truck accident has sent one man to the hospital.

Ohio State Police say the 81-year-old man was Life-Flighted to a nearby hospital after a commercial tractor trailer overturned and dumped at least eight thousand gallons of unpasteurized cow's milk all over Interstate 76 East near the Meander Creek Reservoir in Mahoning County near Austintown, Ohio.

Police told reporters that the driver of the tractor trailer was entering I-76 East when he failed to properly navigate the on-ramp's acute bend, rolling the truck into the embankment and spilling its contents. Ohio state officials say the unpasteurized milk was dumped into a creek bed that flows into the Meander Creek Reservoir, where locals receive their water supply.

Hazardous material crews were called to the scene to clean because of the threat of bacteria contaminating the water and harming vegetation for miles around. A spokesperson from the hazardous material crew told reporters that, as of now, human ingestion of the water is not a primary concern.

The driver who was injured has not yet been identified nor has his condition been made public. Police are continuing to investigate the accident and the driver of the truck has not been charged with any crimes to this point. Ohio state officials have been in contact with engineers who will continue to monitor the situation and assess any future issues the spill may have induced.
