Ohio State Police are investigating an Erie County accident that has left one man dead. The accident took place Sunday evening along Route 6 North westbound in Conneaut Township, near Albion.

The victim, a 72-year-old man from Conneaut, Ohio, was killed when another driver collided into him as the victim tried to pass the other driver on Route 6 North near Knapp Road / PA Route 215 in Conneaut Township at around 9 p.m.

Police told reporters that the victim was driving a 2001 GMC Jimmy and was making an effort to pass a 1997 Chevy Blazer. He apparently didn't realize the Blazer was making a left hand turn. As the Blazer slowed to turn, it hit the GMC Jimmy, causing the vehicle to tumble a number of times before finally coming to a stop in a ditch on the side of the road. The victim was ejected from the vehicle during the roll and died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Chevy, a 64-year-old woman from Albion, PA, and her passenger were not injured in the accident. Police are still unsure whether or not she was using her turn signal at the time of the accident. Police are continuing to investigate and will release an official statement when their investigation is complete.
