A woman from Ohio who was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a train early Sunday morning has died. The driver of the vehicle remains was last listed in critical condition.
The 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The collision occurred in Clinton Township, Wayne County, about forty west of Canton, just south of Wooster.
A spokesperson from the Wayne County Sherriff's Office told reporters that a 32-year-old woman from Millersburg, Ohio was driving her vehicle when she lost control and skidded off the road at around 1 a.m., early Sunday morning.
The vehicle slid to halt in the path of an oncoming train. The train hit the passenger side of the vehicle, killing the 31-year-old and seriously injuring the driver. The passenger was killed instantly and the driver was taken to Akron City Hospital with what officials are calling serious injuries. Her condition has not yet been updated.
A local newspaper reports that county and state police have not yet said anything regarding alcohol being a factor in the accident, but it has not been ruled out. One authority told police that more information will be released pending a police investigation. No one on the train was injured in the collision.
