Two people were hurt today in a car accident in Fairview Township. The accident happened at around 1:20 p.m. along Route 20/West Ridge Road.
The accident took place along the 5600 block of West Ridge Road when two vehicles collided after a white Kia pulled out into the westbound land of West Ridge Road and just stopped. A westward Honda hit the car.
The driver of the Honda told police that he was driving in the westbound lane when the driver of the Kia pulled out of a business at 5678 West Ridge Road and abruptly stopped in the middle of the lane.
The collision sent both cars into the eastbound lanes. Luckily, no one else was injured during the collision. Eastbound lanes remained closed for nearly an hour as clean-up crews cleared the scene.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries and conditions are still unknown. It is also unclear why the driver of the Kia stopped the vehicle in the middle of oncoming traffic. Police are not sure if the car had some type of mechanical failure or if it was simply a lapse in the driver's judgment, but they are continuing to investigate and question other drivers who witnessed the accident.
