Drivers should to be aware and alert at all times while they are on the road because there are any number of obstacles or hazards they might encounter that could endanger themselves and others. For one Ohio driver, that obstacle ended up being a woman who was standing in the roadway. The woman sustained unspecified injuries from the resulting auto-pedestrian accident.
The incident occurred in Mercer County on a recent Tuesday night at about 6:40 p.m. According to reports, the woman stopped her pickup truck on Clover Four Road when she saw two stray dogs that were wandering on the roadway. She attempted to get the dogs out of harm's way. In doing so, she left her car in the eastbound lane of the road.
She was standing in the lane for westbound traffic holding one of the dogs when she was struck by a 24-year-old driver. Two witnesses saw the accident, including a Mercer County Sheriff's Deputy. The 58-year-old woman was flown to a Dayton hospital. The extent and severity of her injuries has not been reported.
Reports do not indicate what factors may have been involved in auto-pedestrian accident, though alcohol has been ruled out. While the driver should have been more alert in this situation, the pedestrian was also unexpectedly in the road. The outcome of the investigation may determine whether or not she may choose to pursue a personal injury claim. In Ohio, a claim of this nature may be successful if there is evidence of negligence on the part of the driver. Any compensation awarded can help the injured party with medical expenses as she focuses on her recovery.
