A tractor trailer traveling southbound on Route 11 overturned in Trumbull County this morning. The accident took place around 6:30am in Bazetta, Ohio between the Route 305 and King Graves exits. The tractor trailer slid to a perpendicular stop and closed both southbound lanes as crews were called in to clear the scene of the accident.
According to an Ohio State Police Patrolman, the tractor trailer slid off the road into the median after steering off the road and getting partially stuck in the mud. The driver was attempting to steer himself back onto the road and the quick manipulation of the wheel caused the truck and its trailer tip over onto its side and slide several feet before coming to a stop and pinning the driver inside for a short time until rescuers could get the man out. He was eventually taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with what are reported to be minor injuries.
It is still unclear what made the man initially drift into the mud on the side of the road, but it speculatively looks like another case of drowsy driving. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and police reopened Route 11 southbound lanes around 9:45am.
