Pennsylvania construction workers injured in fire

Workplace accidents can occur in virtually any occupation. Accordingly, most employers and workers take steps to keep on-the-job injuries at a minimum. Despite this, workplace accidents still happen, sometimes resulting in serious injuries.

Earlier this month three construction workers were hurt as they worked at a college located in Pennsylvania. They were burned when a fire broke out. At the time of the fire they were on the college's athletic field, installing a light pole. The fire occurred when an auger they were using struck a natural gas line. The contact sparked the fire which was put out by the local fire department.

Following the incident, two of the three workers were taken to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were described as minor. Despite this, it is possible that they could spend some time away from work as they heal. Burns are usually quite painful and, depending on the degree of a burn, the healing process may take a long period of time. Being out of work while this takes place can be financially scary for those facing it.

Workers’ compensation benefits are available to most workers in the state of Pennsylvania. This is because most employers are required to purchase workers’ compensation insurance to cover expenses workers injured on-the-job may incur. If someone files a claim for these benefits that is accepted, that worker will receive the benefits. The amount and period of time the benefits will be given depends on factors such as the severity of the injury. Should the initial claim be denied, most find it helpful to work with a lawyer who handles such cases.
