Many people in the state of Pennsylvania travel to other parts of the county for vacations. Depending on their interests, some individuals end up in Las Vegas. When most people think about that city, it is likely that their thoughts include bright lights, glitzy shows and gambling. Very little thought is probably put into those who work to provide that vacation experience to visitors. Recently however, one of those individuals was in the news after he was injured in a work accident.
The man, who is employed by an electric sign business, fell while working on the marquee at MGM Grand. As he worked to take some equipment from the sign, something happened that caused him to fall to the ground below. The drop was 130 feet.
Miraculously, the man survived the fall. According to a member of the fire department who responded to the emergency call, the man fell into landscaping. Though an eyewitness said the worker was covered in blood and clearly in pain following the fall, it is thought that the landscaping may have lessened the severity of the injuries the man suffered. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The extent and nature of his injuries is not known.
At this point it is not clear what caused the man to fall and whether any safety measures were in place to try to prevent such a thing from happening. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is planning to conduct an investigation into the matter.
After such a serious fall it is likely the man suffered injuries that will keep him from working for some time. During this time it is likely that the injured worker will seek workers’ compensation benefits.
