The greatest risk many Pittsburgh area workers face at their jobs is receiving a paper cut on a finger. This is not the case for everyone however, particularly those who have a physical job and are not tied to a desk and computer. While there are a variety of physical types of jobs in existence, construction is likely one of the first occupations that comes to mind when one considers such positions. As it turns out, there is good cause for this.
Last month an accident occurred at a construction site in another state. Several workers were injured in the incident which involved metal beams falling.
The steel beams that fell comprised a portion of the frame of an equine building being constructed on a college campus. At the time of the incident, there were approximately 30 workers at the site of the large building. Because the building is so large, it took some time before the injured workers were rescued. It took longer than most would hope due to the fact that the remainder of the structure had to be secured before the rescue could be attempted.
Of all of the workers who were at the construction site at the time of the incident, a total of four were hurt. Accordingly they were taken to an area hospital for treatment. One individual whose injuries were not serious was released shortly thereafter. The other three remained, two in stable condition and the third in critical condition.
Should any of the workers be unable to immediately return to work it is possible that they will seek workers' compensation benefits. In addition to covering medical bills, such benefits also help with other expenses that may accrue while the workers heal.
