Hayrides are a fun activity that families and friends often coordinate to celebrate a special event. Earlier this summer the reason behind the activity was a 60th wedding anniversary celebration that was apparently being held in a barn located outside of Pittsburgh, in Findlay Township. As a part of the festivities, guests could take a hayride.

Despite the recent wet weather, partygoers of various ages were eager to take part and a total of 20 individuals boarded the trailer that was pulled by a tractor. At some point during the hayride something happened that appears to have caused the man driving the tractor to lose control of it. After sliding along the ground the vehicle and trailer jackknifed and then flipped.

Though all of the individuals taking part in the hayride were thrown from the trailer in the incident, less than half were injured. Authorities indicate that some were pinned by the tractor or the trailer. One of the injured individuals was a child. The severity of the injuries suffered is not known. An investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Findlay Township Police, with the aid of Allegheny County Police.

It is fair to say that the last thing on the minds of those participating in a hayride is the possibility that an accident will occur. As a result of the injuries incurred in the accident, it is possible that individuals hurt in the incident could decide to file a lawsuit against the individual driving the tractor, or if provided by a vendor, the business responsible for the activity.
