This time of year many in the Pittsburgh area want do as many things possible outside. This includes dining. While some head to area restaurants with outdoor patios, others prefer to remain at home. To make the practice easier, many invest in a patio table and matching chairs.
While there are a wide variety of patio sets available made from many different materials, some of the most popular are the ones with glass tops. Individuals who own such tables should be aware of potential issues that could arise concerning them. Owners of these types of tables are complaining that their table tops are spontaneously exploding.
The table tops are made of tempered glass so when it shatters it falls into small pieces. These pieces are less likely to inflict cuts than large shards. After the initial explosion, it is typical for the broken glass to continue to break making popping sounds.
The problem has been reported by individuals throughout the nation and no one manufacturer has specifically been blamed. Despite the numerous reports of the glass tops shattering, thus far no recalls of the defective product have been issued. While individuals of all ages could potentially be injured when this happens, many are particularly concerned with young children since they tend to be adventurous and like shiny things.
It is unclear whether anyone has been injured as a result of the problem though at least one lawsuit regarding the issue has been filed. Nothing apparently happened with that products liability lawsuit because the maker of the table filed for bankruptcy. It is possible however such lawsuits could be filed in the future.
