Family of pedestrian killed in accident seeks insurance payout

When a fatal motor vehicle accident occurs in the Pittsburgh area, it is possible that the loved ones of the person who died may file a wrongful death lawsuit. After such a sudden and unexpected death the financial impact on those left behind can in some situations be just as devastating as the emotional impact. When a wrongful death lawsuit is successful, it is possible that the financial strain will be alleviated. In other situations if the person who died had a life insurance policy, it may be able to a payout from it.

Recently, the family of a woman who died in an accident involving an automobile, sought approval of a settlement from the court. The 59-year-old woman was seriously injured earlier this year when she was hit by a car while she was out walking. Though the woman survived the initial incident her injuries proved to be too severe and she died several days later.

At the time of her death the woman reportedly had an insurance policy that would pay in the event of her death. The relatives seeking to have the claim paid are requesting that the court approve the settlement of $50,000. If approved, a total of $39,100 would be paid to the beneficiaries. Another $10,000 would go to the family's lawyer and $900 for inheritance tax.Her families' request is being characterized partial settlement.

Money is little consolation when a loved one has lost his or her life suddenly. It may however ease the lives of those left to carryon without the deceased.
