When most residents of Western Pennsylvania think of sports stadiums, they likely think about enjoying themselves while attending events at the location. They probably do not consider the worker injuries or even deaths that may have transpired while the venue was being constructed. While no one probably wants to think about such incidents happening, they do nonetheless occur throughout the country.
Such an incident occurred earlier this week in another state. An individual employed as an elevator mechanic died while working when an elevator counterweight struck him. At the time of the incident, the 63-year-old man was perched upon a ladder positioned underneath the weight. It is not clear what cause the weight to strike him.
The man who was killed in the incident was an elevator installer. He had apparently been employed in the position for quite some time. He was employed by Schindler Elevator Co.
Many people probably view construction sites as dangerous places to work. Accordingly, most businesses involved in construction take steps to keep employees safe. While the man's employer, Schindler, undoubtedly did this, it nonetheless has seen its fair share of injuries to its workers at locations throughout the country. In some of those cases other workers died as well.
It is entirely possible that the family of the elevator mechanic will file a wrongful death lawsuit against the business or businesses deemed responsible for the death. This civil lawsuit could result in monetary damages for the family should it be successful. That money could potentially make things easier for his family.
