Reports: MTV star was drunk when car crashed

Last week, MTV reality show star Ryan Dunn was killed in a car crash in Pennsylvania. Now, reports that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash have been confirmed.

Dunn became famous after starring in MTV's "Jackass," an unscripted show in which the stars performed outrageous and dangerous stunts. Dunn was killed last weekend when the Porsche he was driving flew off the road, crashed through a fence and burst into flames. Another man in the car also died as a result of the drunk-driving accident.

Authorities have now said Dunn's blood-alcohol level was twice Pennsylvania's legal limit to drive. Bam Margera, Dunn's friend and fellow "Jackass" star, told NBC Philadelphia recently that Dunn was always "driving like a maniac."

Dunn's death is a sad reminder of the serious consequence that can stem from getting behind the wheel after getting drunk. It is also extremely unfortunate that Dunn's passenger was also killed in the accident. In fact, the only sliver of silver lining in the whole situation is that another innocent driver or pedestrian was not injured, as they often are in drunk-driving crashes.

Dunn should not have been driving if he was drunk, especially if he had a propensity to "drive like a maniac." Unfortunately for everyone, people still drive in similar scenarios. Anyone in Pennsylvania who is hurt by a drunk driver should remember, though, that an attorney who has experience helping injured people may be able to help him or her begin to pick up the pieces after an accident.
