For parents of young children, bean bag chairs are a popular seating option for the younger members of a family. In addition to being light weight and easy to move around, children are often interested in how the chairs feel in their hands and under their bodies when they sit upon them. Accordingly, it is likely that there are many homes in Western Pennsylvania that have the chairs.
Those who do own bean bag chairs probably want to check to make sure they are not a brand that was recently recalled by both the company that manufactured the chairs as well as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall is due to dangers the dangerous product could pose to children using the chair. In some cases the chairs were made with a zipper closure that can be unzipped. When unzipped, it is possible to access the “beans” used to fill the chair. If young children try to eat the filling it is possible that they could suffocate and die.
A total of 6,300 bean bag chairs are included in the recall. They were available for purchase, in a variety of colors, throughout the nation, for an eight month period beginning in June 2012. The company that sold the chairs is offering a repair kit that will keep the zipper closed.
At this point it does not appear that anyone has been injured as a result of the product defect. Hopefully the recall will prevent any incidents from happening in the future.
