Pizza recalled after plastic found in some varieties

While there are many foods that residents of the Pittsburgh area enjoy, pizza is a favorite for individuals of all ages. While some people like to order pizza in restaurants or have it delivered, others prefer to take one from the freezer and pop it in the oven. However it is procured all would likely agree that the food should not be harmful to those who consume it. Despite this, at times food falls into the defective products category.

Purchasers of certain California Pizza Kitchen and DiGiorno pizzas, made by Nestlé Pizza Company, may have received toppings on their pizzas that they did not expect. Small fragments of clear plastic were found by some consumers in at least one of the varieties of pizza made by Nestlé Pizza Company. The plastic pieces were reportedly tied to the spinach that was used on the pizzas.

As a result of the potential for the plastic to appear in the food, the manufacturer issued a recall. Presumably the pizzas included in the recall all contain the spinach that could contain the foreign objects. Consumers who purchased the pizzas should heed the warning as at least one person has been injured as a result of the plastic shards. That individual chipped a tooth.

While a chipped tooth is a nuisance and depending on the chip could be painful, it is possible that other more serious injuries could be suffered as a result of the unexpected plastic pieces in the pizza. They have been described as made out of brittle plastic and could have sharp edges. If sharp enough, the edges could potentially cut someone's mouth.
