Worker dies after fall into ductwork

Workplace deaths are a sad but all too real occurrence at workplaces throughout the nation. Though most employers take steps to keep their workplaces safe for workers, fatal accidents can, and still do, occur. Recently, a man who was employed by a Pittsburgh business was killed while doing work in a neighboring state.

The 57-year-old man, who was employed by Burnham Industrial Contractors, fell into some ductwork while working. At the time, he was in the process of taking out some insulation that was surrounding that ductwork. The fall happened despite safety precautions being taken.

How far the man fell and the injuries he suffered are unknown.

While it is unknown if the man has a family, if he does, they are likely reeling from his sudden death. There is an assumption that when one leaves for work in the morning, that person will make it home, safe and sound. Losing a family member in this way can leave those who depend on that person unsure how to proceed, particularly when it comes to finances.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has commenced an investigation into the incident. That agency will determine if the man's employer failed to provide a safe working environment. Regardless of OSHA's findings, it is possible that if he has a family, it could seek financial damages from his employer, as well as anyone else whose negligence may have contributed to his death, via a wrongful death lawsuit. Though often a difficult process, when successful many find that it is worth it.
