While likely a strange sight for onlookers, occasionally ambulances are involved in collisions with other vehicles on the road. This is of course always a possibility since an ambulance is just another type of motor vehicle.
Earlier this week an ambulance was involved one such incident in Harrison. At the time of the evening accident, the ambulance was transporting a patient. In addition to the patient and the driver, there was also a medic on board. The collision occurred when the ambulance attempted to make a left turn on a road near the hospital. When it did so, it turned into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.
The force of the collision pushed both vehicles off the road and left the pickup driver unable to get out of his vehicle. That driver apparently lost consciousness and suffered somewhat serious injuries. The two individuals who were working in the ambulance were taken to the hospital from where they had just left. Though injured, they were not seriously hurt and were therefore released. Nothing is known about the condition of the patient.
Collisions between two or more vehicles take place in a variety of locations in a variety of situations. Left turns are one of the more common scenarios in which car accidents occur. The question in many of those cases, including this one, is what caused the turning vehicle to enter in to the other lane when traffic was coming toward it. Because the ambulance did not have its lights on at the time of the incident, this remains a question in this accident.
