Despite the winter weather, construction projects routinely move forward in Allegheny County as well as throughout the rest of the state of Pennsylvania. Because there are construction projects year round, there are also reports about workers being injured while at work. Late last month three men were hurt while working at a construction site in Pennsylvania.

At the time of the incident the three workers were doing welding work on a modular structure. As they did so, part of that structure, which is made of steel, collapsed. While thankfully no one was crushed by the heavy steel, the three workers nonetheless suffered injuries that made it necessary for them to seek medical attention at a hospital. The nature and severity of the injuries suffered is not known though two of the workers were released from the hospital shortly after receiving treatment.

There are many hazards present on construction sites that are not found in other workplaces such as offices. As is illustrated in this situation, one of those hazards is the chance that an object will fall on a worker. Depending on a variety of factors including the size, weight and distance from which the object falls, it is possible that the injuries incurred by a worker can be serious. This usually results in a long period of recovery during which time the injured worker is unable to return to his or her job.

In this situation and others like it, it is possible that the workers who were hurt will seek workers' compensation benefits. Those benefits are available to help relieve some of the financial pressure that usually mounts when someone cannot work due to a workplace injury.
