Children's products are recalled all too often in Pittsburgh as well as throughout the nation. There are a variety of reasons these recalls occur but all have to do with the fact that the product could injure someone, most likely a child. Recently a toy used by young children to aid them in maintaining balance while learning to walk, was recalled. Called the Imaginarium Activity Walker, the reason for the recall is the possibility that a front wheel could fall off.
While a wheel falling off could cause injury to a child should he or she fall as a result, the larger issue appears to be that it is possible that a child could choke on either the bolt or the spacer that holds the wheels in place.
Choking is an issue that must be addressed with many products used in the care of children. When children get a hold of small parts and put them in their mouths it can be frightening for parents who discover their child has a foreign object in his or her mouth. While this can cause quite a scare, such a part could become caught and the child unable to get it out. In the worst cases this leads to death.
Fortunately, the defect with the dangerous toy, which was sold at Toys "R" Us stores, has not caused any injuries as a result of the wheels falling off. This is despite at least five complaints of the problem occurring. Since in total 9,000 of the walkers has been recalled it is possible that more instances of the wheels falling off could have happened.
