New Year's Eve is a dangerous time of year throughout the nation, including the Pittsburgh area. This is true even when the weather is good. One can imagine then, how much worse things can be when the weather is bad.
Slippery roads contributed to several accidents in the Pittsburgh area early this New Year's Eve. While there were likely many fender benders, one crash stands out, at least to those involved. A vehicle travelling down a hill on Waidler Street, in Brentwood, ended up in a collision with a home when the driver lost control and the car slid down the hill into the house. Though the resident of the home was there when this incident occurred, fortunately, no one was injured in the crash.
In fact drivers in the Pittsburgh area appear to have made it through the holiday without suffering any serious injuries this year. All would likely agree this is a good outcome for a holiday so often tied to tragic car accidents.
In addition to bad weather, motor vehicle accidents on New Year's Eve and early New Year's Day are often due to drunk drivers. As most are likely aware this type of impaired driving can result in serious crashes, sometimes even leading to death.
Drunk driving is a frustrating thing to have to deal with. This is in part due to the fact that it is often innocent individuals who are hurt or killed in these accidents. It is also due to the fact that these accidents could so easily be prevented. Thankfully it does not appear to have been a big issue in the Pittsburgh area this holiday.
